Frequently Asked Questions:

It is a "Farm Management System", so why is there hardly any mention of Livestock?

We are currently developing a Livestock module, along the same lines as the existing Crop functionality, now that the concept of online Farm Management has been proved. We will announce on this site when the Livestock module is ready.

Do I need an Internet connection?

Yes. The Farm Management System operates via the web, which reduces costs (you don't have to buy and install software and software updates!) and, more importantly, enables you to grant access to your chosen business partners, all via the Internet.

This means you only need to enter data once for all your customers' and certifier's needs.

Can I enter data into the System with my PC disconnected from the web?

No. The System is accessed via the web at all times. The most common activity in System use is entry of Harvest records: we have developed a batch entry screen to speed this process up. Similar time-saving functionality can be developed in response to user feedback.

How long will it take to put records in for a year?

For a typical farm, it takes a few hours to enter back-dated records and, from that point on, a few minutes per week to keep up to date. Batch entry for Harvest records has been added to speed up this most common of record-keeping additions.

Can I enter data about non-Organic Plots and Crops?

Yes! Each Plot can be entered as "Non-Organic", "In Conversion" or "Organic" (this can be changed if the Plot changes status), and you will get full functionality with all three (i.e. trace codes, reports, etc.). We are adding Non-Organic treatments soon.

How do I know who has access to my data?

A screen shows you all the people you have granted access to, and you can alter this access at any time. If your certifier is using the System, and you choose to request an electronic certificate from them, they will also have access to your data. You remain in control of who can see your data: you can be as open or as private as you want.

We already have a software package for Farm record keeping: how is this different?

By allowing you to grant access to your data to other parties, you can save valuable time in sending or copying data to those you work with.
