Introduction
In the last few years the Organic Market has grown exponentially, and all the
evidence suggests that this trend is going to continue. This is clearly a two-edged
sword for the industry, opening-up many new opportunities, but also creating
numerous problems for it to contend with.
As the market for Organic produce continues to grow, the potentially substantial
margins which it offers are obviously going to attract many new producers, not
all of whom will share the idealism that motivates most of the producers at
this time. Conclusively proving the authenticity of produce has been a problem
for the industry for some time now: fraud is difficult to trace, and
legitimate producers suffer as a result. As the number of producers grow, so
the problem escalates - especially if profit becomes the major incentive. Proving
authenticity will become more than a "nice thing to have"; it will
be a necessity.
This is exactly what our Farm Management System offers (amongst other things)
- a means of capturing and distributing information about Organic crops to whoever
needs it, both within the industry and beyond to consumers. All data in the
system is owned and controlled by those who enter it, so confidentiality is
assured; exchanging this data with relevant parties is simple.
Records are kept online in a consistent format, and these can be accessed and
monitored by certifiers.
Each Farm and each Harvest can be traced using unique codes by authorized parties
to generate reports. Releasing such information to industry customers and/or
the public not only demonstrates producer authenticity, but also proves the
added value of the Organic brand in a sector still dominated by conventional
produce.
Testimonials from certifiers involved in using and developing
the Farm Management System can be read here.

System Features
Current features of the System include:
- Free 60-day trial that begins upon creation of a Farm, to fully evaluate System features
for live data.
- Entry and storage
of Farm data in accordance with standards requirements: Plots, Crop Plans,
and records of Plantings, Harvests and Treatments (including detailed Treatment
information, such as whether it is approved by the National Organic Standards
Act).
- Invitations conferring
varying access privileges onto other System Users to view Farm data, to protect
the confidentiality of existing trading relationships.
- Traceability of each
Farm and Harvest, using unique Trace codes assigned by the System. Access
to this functionality is controlled by the person who created the Farm in
the System. See a sample Farm
Trace Report. See a sample
Harvest Trace Report.
- Report sheets
for one or many Farms (e.g. in a co-operative), which are easily printed to
provide paper records.
- Multi-language
data entry and translations so that each User sees all data in their native
language, whatever language it was entered in. (Currently supports English,
Italian and North American, but extends to any number of languages.)
- Online organic lisencee
certificates
for all Farms whose Certifier's certification records are integrated into
the System (see a list of participating certifiers here),
visible to all parties granted access by the farmer.
- Certifier access
to licensee data
with ability to authenticate licensee status.

To log in to the System and begin using it, click on the "Login" option
in the menu on the left. All the screens should be self-explanatory, and will
guide you through the process of creating a User name and adding your Farm data.
Alternatively, e-mail support@organicecology.com
with "Demo Farm request" in the subject field to request a login
to a fully working demo Farm which has sample records you can alter, for
you to evaluate the System.
Specific questions can be addressed to existing System users who have volunteered
to respond to inquiries from prospective users (e-mails will be sent to Organic
Ecology - we will forward them to the relevant person, and they will reply to
you):
Feedback is welcomed from
all Users both on existing System features and what features could or should
be included. Please send any questions or comments to info@organicecology.com
