What Worms Do:

Horrible wriggly things, worms, aren't they? Not according to organic farmers.

It's all to do with the health of the soil. Worms speed up the decomposition of organic matter, effectively ploughing the nutrients into the soil. They also benefit the soil structure, aerating and improving water retention. When they die, worms also provide nutrition for any plants nearby. Versatile and useful, the worm is pretty much the farmer's best friend.
