As Organic food enters
the mass market over the coming months and years, we believe that it will be
of increasing importance to consumers (and producers) that the Organic industry
is transparent, and the authenticity of its produce demonstrable.
If you buy organic food, you are not just buying a functional item, you are
investing in the environment and in the men and women who farm using methods to protect it.
In return, producers are keen to demonstrate their credentials to reinforce confidence in this investment.
Consumer traceability is a mechanism connecting the consumer to the producer
to achieve these objectives of transparency and trust.
Entering a Trace Code (a 7-digit code from
the back of the packaging the food came in) below will take you immediately
to the information recorded about the item in question in our Farm
Management System (a Trace Report); information entered and controlled by
the farmer. At a glance, you can see the various actions carried out by the
farmer in producing the item, from planting to harvest, and an explanation of
what all the information on the Report means.
The Soil Association
(Britain's largest Organic certifier) is using our system to
maintain certification details for registered users: already, if you enter a Trace Code
from a Soil Association-certified farm, you can see that farm's Organic certificate.
This is an initiative available to all certification bodies, both
in the UK and overseas.
There is more information about the Organic industry in our Resources
section. Read more about Trace Codes here. |
